Charles City Firecracker 5K Registration Now Open

Registration is now open for the 2026 Charley Western Firecracker 5K run/walk event on July 4th, with event proceeds going towards repairs and improvements of the recreational trail.

Now in its 24th year, hosted by Main Street Charles City, the 5K race will begin at 7:30 AM on Saturday, July 4th, starting and finishing by the high school football field. The registration opens at 6:15 AM

Pre-registration for the 5K is $30 on or before June 19th for ages 19-and-up, and $25 on or before June 19th for ages 18-and-under. Registrations after June 19th will be $5 more and may not include a special free runners gift, depending on supplies.

There’s also a free Kids Fun Run around the high school track at 8:30 AM. 

An awards ceremony is scheduled for 8:45 AM, with awards for both men and women in eight different age categories, as well as the overall male and female first place finishers. There will also be participant door prizes and awards for the best patriotic-themed outfit (male and female). 

The race will conclude in time for the annual Independence Day Parade in downtown Charles City.
