Charles City Bracket Street Railroad Crossing Closing Monday (06.22)

The first of three railroad crossing improvement projects on Charles City’s north side is scheduled to begin next week. However, it’s not the project originally planned to be first in line.

During last Monday (06.15) night’s City Council meeting, Mark Crawford with Crawford Engineering, the firm the City has on retainer for engineering services, gave an update that the North Grand Avenue railroad crossing has to be put on hold.

Thus, Crawford said the contractor, Popp Excavating, will switch gears when they begin work this Monday (06.22). 

The City says the Brackett Street crossing will be closed to all traffic for approximately two weeks while construction is underway, though schedule adjustments may be required due to weather conditions, rail operations, or construction progress.

Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area and use alternate routes during the closure.

Crawford added that after the Brackett and Iowa/Lane railroad crossings are done, North Grand will follow, with the hopes it will be ready for completion when the signals come in.

The City adds that the improvements are being made to enhance safety and provide smoother railroad crossing for motorists. Your patience and cooperation during the construction is greatly appreciated.
