Street Closings Announced for Charles City July 4th Weekend Festivities

There will be several temporary street closings as part of the Fourth of July Celebration in Charles City.

The Charles City Chamber says Kelly and Blunt street, adjacent to Central Park, will be closed all day Friday (07.03) and much of the day Saturday (07.04), as will the 300 block of North Jackson Street for activities in and around the park. North Jackson should re-open after 4 PM on Saturday.

Additionally, Comet Drive from the high school to Clark Street will be closed first thing Saturday morning for the Charley Western Firecracker 5K race, with brief stoppages in traffic at the Clark Street intersection as racers cross to access the recreational trail. The race begins at 7:30 AM and will be over by 8:30 AM. Comet Drive by the high school should reopen by 9:30 AM.

Lineup for the Independence Day Parade Saturday is on 13th Avenue, between North Grand and Cleveland avenues, with 13th Avenue closed to thru traffic from 8 AM to noon. Access to lineup is available at either North Grand or E Street to 15th Avenue, then turning right and going to Cleveland Avenue to the parade check-in station. The parade begins at 10:30 AM.

The Charles City Independence Day parade route is North Grand, from 13th Avenue to North Main Street, then up North Main to Clark Street, over to North Jackson and ending at Lane Street. Those streets will be closed off Saturday morning until the conclusion of the parade around noon. No on-street parking will be allowed on the parade route.

The annual July Fourth Fireworks Show Saturday night starts about 10 PM over the Main Street Bridge, with Main Street from Court to Riverside Drive closed at 9 PM and reopening after fireworks at about 11 PM.
