Charles City Man Airlifted to Mayo In Rochester After Crashing Paraglider

A Charles City man suffered serious injuries after crashing his paraglider Sunday (07.05) night about four miles north of Charles City.

The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) responded to the 1600 block of Shadow Avenue shortly after 8:30 PM for a paraglider that had crashed. FCSO says Jason Aikey was operating the single-man unit when he approached a highline wire and, while attempting to maneuver his aircraft away from the highline wire, he lost control of his paraglider and crashed to the ground.  The paraglider did not hit the highline wire before it went down.

Aikey was transported by helicopter to Mayo Hospital in Rochester for treatment of unknown injuries.

Deputy Luke Chatfield says FCSO is still investigating the wreck, but does not foresee any charges being filed in the incident.

Also assisting at the scene was the Charles City Police Department, Floyd Volunteer Fire Department, Floyd County Search and Rescue,  AMR Ambulance, and the FAA.
