Chickasaw County Bridge Projects Get $2.2 Million Federal Boost

A pair of future Chickasaw County bridge projects are getting a boost over over $2.2 million in federal funding.

County Engineer Roman Lensing asked the Chickasaw County Board of Supervisors Monday (07.06) to approve an Iowa DOT federal aid agreement for grants through the Competitive Highway Bridge Program.

Lensing said bid-letting for the projects would occur in January 2027, with construction next summer.

Minus Supervisor Steven Breitbach who was absent, the Supervisors voted 4-0 to approve the CHBP agreement, Lensing said he also applied for federal grant funding for another 10 projects, but only one is likely.

In other department activity, Lensing said crews Monday morning installed the final sign to mark the change in speed limit from 55 MPH to 60 MPH on the County’s two-lane paved roads. Though, not all citizens, nor Lensing himself, favors the increased speed limit.

Lensing added he didn’t believe there are any paved roads in the County they could validate to have a speed limit lower than 60 MPH.
