Floyd County Weather Camera Operational on Rockford Tower

For almost a month now, a new weather camera has been operational on the Floyd County communications tower near Rockford.

Emergency Management Agency Director Jason Webster says the camera, at nearly 300 feet up, will help officials, the public, and the National Weather Service keep an eye on threatening or severe weather.

Webster adds that the camera can be enjoyed by weather buffs or those who just want to “take in the sights.”

Earlier this year, the Floyd County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a one-time cost of almost $8,700, which covers the camera equipment, installation, and a 10-year licensing agreement. Payment for the project came out of proceeds from the bond that paid for the new communications tower near Rockford. Thus, the expense will not be a cost to taxpayers.
