No Injuries in Charles City Apartment Fire Early Wednesday (08.05) Morning

There were no injuries reported in an early Wednesday (08.05) morning in Charles City.

Chief Sam Deverell says the Charles City Fire Department (CCFD) was dispatched just after 12:30 AM to a structure fire at 404 Clark Street. CCFD personnel arrived to find a two-story, multi-unit apartment building with light smoke coming from a first floor apartment. 

Mutual aid was received from the Floyd and Colwell fire departments, with close to 20 firefighters battling the fire  for almost an hour before it was extinguished.

Deverell says the fire was contained to the apartment of origin, though smoke did extend into the hallway and other apartments. There were multiple apartments occupied at the time of the fire, with smoke alarms alerting occupants to evacuate the apartment building to safety where they called 911. 

The fire and smoke displaced the residents of two apartments. There were no reported injuries.

Emergency responders remained at the scene until almost 2 AM. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Deverell adds there is no immediate danger to the public.

Also assisting at the scene of the fire were the Charles City Police Department, Charles City Water Department, Floyd County Emergency Management Agency, Floyd County Communications Center, Floyd County Search & Rescue, Floyd County Sheriff’s Office, and AMR Ambulance.
