Charles City to Post Signs Against E-Bikes/E-Scooters on Downtown Sidewalks

Charles City officials haven’t drafted an ordinance yet to address the growing problem of E-scooters and E-bikes being operated unsafely in the city, but they are taking measures to curb the problem in the downtown area.

That’s Mayor Dean Andrews, who also asks for patience for the signs to be put up.

City Administrator Tyler Trout gave an update on the signs during last Monday (08.03) night’s City Council meeting.

As for the overall E-bike/E-scooter problem, Andrews says it will also require safety education for riders, especially younger riders.

During a recent planning session, the City Council discussed the possibility of an ordinance to regulate E-scooters and E-bikes in city limits, but no official action was taken by the City Council. 

Signs banning e-bikes, e-scooters and bikes in general from downtown sidewalks have not been installed as of Saturday (08.08).
