Rescheduled Charles City Police “National Night Out” Gets Great Weather, Turnout

After weather postponed the event from Tuesday (08.04), Mother Nature was much cooperative with sunshine and temps in the 70s Thursday (08.06) for National Night Out with the Charles City Police Department in Central Park.

Community Resource Officer Duane Ollendiek says the annual event is a valuable tool in promoting positive police-community relations.

New this year was the foam dance party, and the opioid impaired driving simulation course.

The Charles City Fire Department was also on hand with their water ball and a vehicle extraction demonstration.

Night Out activities also include the Backpack Giveaway, with 225 backpacks supplied by the Salvation Army and filled with school supplies provided by Zoetis. Ollendiek says Haberkorn Services of Charles City also donated another 125 backpacks.

United Way of North Central Iowa and Valero also gave away over 500 pairs of new and/or gently used shoes.
