Robert “Bob” Miller, 92, of Charles City

Robert “Bob” Miller, 92, of Charles City, passed away Monday, August 17, 2026, at the 11^th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

A funeral service for Bob Miller will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 21, 2026, at Messiah Lutheran Church in Charles City with Erik Hoefer officiating. A private burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the service on Friday at the church.

Robert Dean Miller, the son of Coy and Gwendolyn (Frazier) Miller, was born on June 19, 1934, in Afton, Iowa. He graduated from Truro High School in 1952. He then went on to further his education, receiving his bachelor’s at Iowa State University and obtaining his master’s at University of Northern Iowa. After college, Bob served in the Iowa National Guard. Bob was united in marriage to Marilyn Westendorf on July 17, 1960, in Mason City.

Bob, affectionately known to his students as “Boogie Bob”, was a high school teacher for 40 plus years. He was an educator at Alden High School (1956-1960), Postville High School (1960-1964), and Charles City High School (1964-1996). Bob taught industrial technology, electronics, automotive, history, and drivers’ education in the summertime. Outside of school he also taught classes for snowmobile safety and gun safety.

Bob was a member of the Elks Lodge, Kiwanis Club, the Truro Masonic Temple, and a lifetime member of the National Education Association (NEA). He served as a board member for ISEA Credit Union for many years. Bob enjoyed fishing, hunting, and shooting. Bob and Marilyn loved to adventure together. They went on many cruises, train rides, road trips (visiting 49 states), and travels to Mexico, Kenya, and Egypt.

Living family members include his loving wife of 66 years, Marilyn Miller; son, Kip Miller; grandchildren, Kimberly “Kimber” (Jeff) Fuhrman-Miller (great-grandchildren, Rowan & Dylan) and Alexander Miller, as well as their mother, Christine Miller; daughter, Leah (Quinn) Weber; grandchildren, Christian (Cassidy) Weber (dogs, Brookes & Remi) and Jared (Dr. Sonja Gilbertson) Weber (cats, Shiloh & Mila).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Coy and Gwen Miller, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Betty and Stan Block.
