Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office Planning for Next K9 Deputy

For about the last seven years, the Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit has been composed of K9 Duke and his handler, Deputy Stephen Johnson.

That’s Sheriff Ryan Shawver, who says Duke will eventually age out of the position. So, they’ve started planning for his successor.

To get ready to acquire their next K9, Shawver says the sheriff’s office will again rely on generous donations from the public.

Shawver says possible fundraising activities next year could include a golf outing.

Johnson and Duke came over to the Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office after working as a tandem for the Nashua Police Department, which has since ceased operations.
