City of New Hampton Wraps Up Hydrant Replacement Project

Replacements of over a dozen fire hydrants in New Hampton have been completed.

Over the past three weeks or so, Kyle Anderson, the City’s Street, Water and Sanitary Collection Superintendent, says crews replaced a total of 13 hydrants, including two that were damaged by vehicle accidents. He says the project’s last and final fire hydrant was replaced on Thursday (09.25).

Anderson estimated replacement costs averaged about $8,000 per hydrant, including parts, rock and blocking, and labor, with the work done by Blazek Corporation of Lawler. He also notes that the project was budgeted for in advance and adds that “nothing lasts forever and things need to be replaced to assure good water service.”

Anderson says the City appreciates the patience and understanding of the residents during the replacement of the fire hydrants, which caused some temporary interruptions in water service and/or reduced water flow.

More work involving the fire hydrants in New Hampton is also expected next month. Anderson says crews will begin to flush hydrants for the fall season within the next couple of weeks and should be wrapped up the end of October.
