Charles City Officials Seek Resident Input on E-Bikes, E-Scooters for Possible Safety Ordinance

Last week, the New Hampton City Council advanced the first reading of an ordinance to address the growing problem of electric scooters and electric bikers being operated unsafely, creating potential mishaps, or worse, for riders, motorists and pedestrians.
The Charles City City Council is also looking to begin formulating its own ordinance during a planning session Wednesday (07.29) night.
Mayor Dean Andrews says it’s an issue he’s been hearing stories about for months.
Andrews says the ordinance goes beyond E-scooters and E-bikes.
The Mayor encourages resident participation at the planning session.
The planning session starts at 6 PM Wednesday in the Zastrow Room of the Charles City Public Library, though no official action will be taken.
Andrews notes it’s just the beginning of the ordinance process, which would require passage of three readings of the ordinance by the City Council before it would become official.
