Summit to Add New North Iowa Branch to Carbon Pipeline

Summit Carbon Solutions is looking to expand its carbon pipeline “footprint†in north Iowa.
Summit is already proposing a branch of its Midwest Carbon Express pipeline to start with the Homeland Energy Solutions ethanol plant between Lawler and New Hampton and build west through Chickasaw, Floyd and Cerro Gordo counties among others. Earlier this month, Summit announced the addition of Absolute Energy near St. Ansgar to its proposed pipeline network and is seeking another 31-miles of pipe that would connect their newest ethanol partner to its current proposed pipeline near Rockford.
While Summit is nearing the end of its permit process with the Iowa Utilities Board (IUB) for its original pipeline proposal, the Iowa Capital Dispatch reports that the company will seek a second permit for the additional pipeline, since modifying its existing request would likely delay the permit proceedings. So, last week, Summit asked the IUB to set informational meetings for the expansion in Floyd and Mitchell counties.Â
No new informational meetings have been officially set yet in either county, but Summit was recently successful in expediting its current permit process when the IUB set a final evidentiary hearing for the permit to start in August, roughly two months earlier than initially expected.
Summit has said it wants a decision on its permit by the end of the year, whereas opponents hoped to delay the hearing to next year.
