Floyd County Supervisors Presented Wind Turbine Moratorium Petition

The Floyd County Board of Supervisors has been presented with a petition seeking a moratorium on the development of wind turbine farms, at least until the County’s ordinance regarding their construction can be updated.

In August, Supervisors heard from NextEra and Invenergy on projects to build about 170 wind turbines combined. Both companies target areas from Rudd and Floyd south towards Marble Rock and Rockford.

Candi Brandau-Larson is one of the leaders of the moratorium petition who addressed the Supervisors’ meeting Monday (10.09) morning.

Tom Treharne with NextEra said he understands the concerns of landowners, but wants to ensure a moratorium addresses the construction ordinance and not wind energy as a political issue.

Board Chair Mark Kuhn commended the moratorium group’s efforts to advance the issue while alluding to Saturday (10.07) night’s Iowa State “Jack Trice Legacy” football game.

Supervisors took no action on a moratorium, but Kuhn promised an answer would come, one way or the other.
