City of Charles City Names New Fire Chief

After a three-month hiring process, the City of Charles City has named its new fire chief.
Sam Deverell has been tabbed to succeed current chief, Marty Parcher. Deverell comes to the CCFD after an extensive career in the military and fire service industry. He is a Charles City graduate and recently moved his family back to Charles City.Â
Deverell was selected from over a dozen applicants for the post.
In the fall of 2022, then-Chief Eric Whipple left the position to become the director of Emergency Management in Cerro Gordo County.
Parcher then came out of retirement to serve as interim fire chief. In March, he announced he was ready to retire again and the City began their search for a successor.
