Bulk of $2.3 Million Federal Funding for Rural Communities to Northeast Iowa

U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley has announced over $2.3 million in federal funding to support Iowa’s rural communities, with the bulk of the money coming to Northeast Iowa.

In a statement, Grassley says, “Many Iowans call rural communities home, and they deserve our support and investment. These federal dollars will upgrade critical infrastructure, promote economic development, and boost health and safety initiatives throughout rural Iowa.”

The largest grant of $2 million is going to Allamakee-Clayton Electric Cooperative in Winneshiek County to expand Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah. The project is expected to create 63 new jobs at WinnMed.

Receiving $300,000 is the Webster-Calhoun Cooperative Telephone in Webster County to partially finance the facility expansion of Southwest Webster Ambulance, helping construct a new ambulance and medical services building.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture will administer the funding through its Rural Development grant program.
