Law Enforcement STEPs Up to Catch Impaired Drivers Easter/420 Weekend
If you’re “some bunny” who drives impaired this Easter weekend, beware that law enforcement is on the look out for you.
The Charles City and New Hampton police departments are among the agencies participating in the Special Traffic Enforcement Program (sTEP) starting Friday (04.18) and continuing through next Tuesday (04.22). The latest sTEP comes with special emphasis on impaired driving, seatbelt and speeding violations, along with texting while driving violations.
New Hampton Police Chief Conrad Rosendahl says their focus on impaired driving also includes “4-20.”
Charles City Police Chief Hugh Anderson says other substances can also be at play.
Anderson adds that impaired driving isn’t restricted to just cars and trucks.
The Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau (GTSB) says that, in 2023, 25% of Iowa’s traffic fatalities were drug related.
GTSB is partnering with law enforcement statewide to remind drivers, If You Feel Different, You Drive Different.
