Northeast Iowa Man Dies After Landslide Strikes House

A northeast Iowa man has died following a landslide Tuesday (09.30) morning.

The Allamakee County Sheriff’s Office says they received a 911 call shortly after 10:30 am Tuesday morning that a hill slide had collapsed at a home along Red Oak Drive in rural Allamakee County. At the scene, first responders found a 76-year-old male who died after being hit by a rock that crashed into the residence.

It was determined that numerous rocks from an adjacent property had rolled down the hillside, with a large rock crashing through the victim’s residence, striking the man and fatally injuring him.

The victim’s name is being withheld pending family notification. The incident is under investigation.

Harpers Ferry Fire and Rescue, Lansing Police Department, Allamakee County Emergency Management, and Allamakee County Medical Examiner also assisted on scene.
