A road maintenance mishap has led to a road closure in southwest Floyd County.
During Tuesday’s (08.18) Board of Supervisors meeting, County Engineer Adam Miller explained what transpired on Monday (08.17).
Miller said replacing the timber culvert with metal culverts is the quickest way to get the road back open.
Costs for the metal culverts were estimated at $15,000, though Miller said Secondary Roads can install them to save the County money on that end.
Supervisors asked Miller if culverts like these are inspected regularly.
Miller added that, while there’s no state or federal requirements for culverts/bridges under 20 feet in length to be inspected, he’d like to look at the County to do voluntary inspections every 10 years.
On another cost-saving note, Miller said the County has been the beneficiary of free fill dirt, thanks to the Kading Properties housing development west of Floyd County Medical Center.
