Charles City’s Great Chili Cook-Off ‘Banking on the Best Chili in Town’

Chili lovers rejoice! Main Street Charles City’s Great Chili Cook-Off is back, with a new team of cooks at a new time of year.

Mark your calendars for September 11th, to warm up your tummy and your community spirit, as well as help pick the winner of the 28th Annual Great Chili Cook-Off. In the past this event has been held in the winter months, but for the first time has been moved to the fall, the start of cooler weather.

This year’s theme is “Banking on the Best Chili in Town,’  with local banks and financial advisory firms vying for the coveted “Golden Ladle Award.”

This year’s featured cooks will be independent financial advisor Bovic Muamba, Jim Springer representing CUSB Bank, Jeremy Heyer from Edward Jones, Jay Jung from Floyd County Farm Bureau Financial Services, Elliott Gebel from Fidelity Bank & Trust, Brittany Marzen for First Citizens Bank, and First Security Bank & Trust’s Carly Demro.

The public is invited to sample each of the seven batches of chili, voting for their favorite, as well as enjoy dessert prepared by the Charles City High School Comet Café. Beverages will also be provided.

Tickets are $10 and available in advance at the Main Street Charles City Office at 401 North Main Street, or at the door the day of the event at the Columbus Club. Serving and voting on September 11th will take place from 11 AM to 1 PM.

Main Street Charles City is a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization under the Main Street Iowa program that works to preserve, beautify and enhance the Charles City downtown district.
